Holiday painting courses just outside the stunning village of Eygalières in the heart of Provence

Mas St Sixte: A Studio in Provence

One week courses for beginners, intermediate and more experienced artists in Oils or Watercolours with expert tuition from practising artists

Le Mas Sainte Sixte is an 17th century stone Mas with vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and tiled floors throughout. It is set within four hectares of parkland and boasts stunning views over the Alpilles.

There is a secure swimming pool, tennis court and plenty of entertainment. The courtyard has a wonderful view of the 12th century chapel of Saint Sixte.

Oil Painting with Adebanji Alade    26th August to 1st September 2017

At work inside and out

Your week with us will be fully catered for. Meals will be prepared for you using seasonal and locally sourced produce. We try to support our local businesses by buying from the producers in our area. You will have packed lunches or picnics prepared for you to take on day trips.

Any guests with specific needs or requests for meals will be catered for. Please let us know during the booking process.

Our favourite wines from the Luberon will be offered with dinner as well as wines from the local vineyards 'Valdition' and Val De L'Oule. Cancelades at Menerbes, Faverot at Maubec and Chateau Constantin at Lourmarin to name but a few…

Prices are on a room basis. There are six large double rooms and two smaller rooms. If you wish to bring a friend or a partner, there will be a second person supplement.

For courses in 2017, please fill in this booking form

Full payment is required at the latest four weeks in advance of the start of the course. If, for any reason you have to cancel your course after having paid the full course fee, we will endeavour to fill your place - in which case a full refund will be paid. If we are unable to fill your place, we reserve the right to retain all of the course fees.

You can pay via Paypal directly through the booking form or send a cheque or make a direct bank transfer.

Taxis can take you from the airport directly to us at a cost of around €130 one way or you can hire a car at one of the many car hire agencies found outside the main terminal. If a number of students are taking the same flight, we will arrange to collect you in a minivan.

If you are travelling by train to Avignon (see Eurostar timetable below) you can hire a car from there or take a taxi at a cost of around €90. If a number of students are travelling on the same train, we will arrange a minivan to collect you.

Hiring a car is strongly advised as it allows a certain amount of freedom and makes day trips easier to organise.

If driving to us from Avignon, follow signposts for the A7 (Lyon), leave the Autoroute at junction 26 (Cavaillon). Follow signs to Plan D’Orgon (D99, Route D’Orgon). At the crossroads carry straight on to the roundabout at Les Grandes Terres. Take the third exit (D74a, Route de la Gare) towards Eygalieres. Turn left onto the Chemin de Sainte Claude (signpost to Chapelle Saint Sixte). The last property on the left before the crossroads is us.

If you are driving all the way (It has been done before and I recommend staying a night in Troyes on the way), take the A7 (direction Avignon). Leave the A7 at Cavaillon (Junction 26) then follow the directions as above.

Eurostar timetable

The first evening after you have arrived and settled in, drinks and canapés will be served outside or in the living room before dinner is served at 8:00pm. Feel free to have a wander around to get a feel for the place at your leisure.

Enjoy a day painting the Alchemist's garden at Mas de la Brune

For students: After breakfast, you’ll attend your first lesson with your Tutor.

For non painting guests: There is much to see and do in the area. We can arrange for bike hire if you wish explore the area, there is also the option of riding available. We have plenty of vineyards nearby if you wish to do a little wine tasting – with of course the option to buy as much of it as you can carry home!

Otherwise feel free to use the swimming pool or tennis court at your leisure. The nearest village (Eygalières) is around twenty minutes walk from the Mas and is filled with cafes, restaurants and many shops... enough to keep you busy for the week.
Of course, you are welcome to tag along with the artists on the day trips. There are many sights to see and much enjoyment to be had whist the artists are slaving away at their easels!

Richard Thorneycroft moved to France with his family five years ago. Before moving, Richard worked for many years at the Heatherley School of Fine Art in London after having studied there as a Diploma student.

After finishing his studies, he moved into the office, dividing his week between Heatherley’s and the Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art where he worked as the gallery manager. Later he became the full time marketing manager and life model coordinator as well as sharing the administration of the school.
During his time at Heatherley's, Richard was taught by many fantastic tutors, some of whom his is lucky enough to now call friends.

It is all this experience which he now brings to this set of Holiday courses in the South of France with excellence and the best quality tuition his absolute priority.
